WHAT'S IN A NAME?
kopriva is a Czech family name that translated means "nettle". Stinging Nettle, a plant which grows ubiquitously throughout the northern hemisphere, has been used for centuries for its' medicinal, nutritional and physical properties. We feel the nettle is an accurate metaphor and symbol for our wine; a wine with a spine of acidity like a stalk of kopriva.
Why is kopriva important?
Our wine style is deliberate, from vineyard to consumption. We produce a Chardonnay that tastes like wine made from Chardonnay grapes and we seek to provide the right amount of body and flavor to balance the acidic structure we desire. We want the wine to be enjoyable on it's own and compliment the food you might drink it with.
kopriva is owned and managed by four family members. We are accessible and available. If you want to talk to any principal, please contact us.
We produce one wine. We strive to perfect that product.
We spend what time and money is necessary to ensure a world class bottle of wine.
Our wine is a value. It over delivers for what we charge the wholesaler and consumer. Our price point enables on site premises to serve our wine by the glass, not just by the bottle.
We self distribute; no brokers, no distributors, no middlemen. This keeps costs down for the consumer. We personally deliver anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
We produce less than 1200 cases. That is a very small production which creates limited availability. Our growth in production is inherently limited by our ability to make and sell it ourselves.
Chardonnay grapes, yeast, water, bentonite and sulfur-dioxide.
The most notable is the Chablis Appellation of France. It is an uncommon style for Chardonnay in California but occupies a small but trendy niche.
Our style of Chardonnay is atypical within the pantheon of California Chardonnay. It may not taste like what you are used to.
2005 was our first vintage. Every succeeding vintage we refine our work.
We rely on our wine, partners, customers, friends and family to spread the word.
Try our wine, we hope you appreciate it.
